Popcorn Balls and Sculptures

There are tons of fun things you can do with popcorn, including making it into fun shapes and sizes! Use cake pans, gelatin molds, or a cookie sheet and your own imagination.


Makes: depends on shapes


Ingredients:
10 c. popped ACT II® Microwave Popcorn, Old Fashioned Natural flavor (approx. 2 1/2 bags)
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. butter
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
Food coloring
Any of the following for decoration: frosting, candy, nuts, etc.


Directions:

  1. Pop corn in microwave and keep in warm large roasting pan in oven set at 250† F.
  2. Combine sugar, salt, water, butter, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook until sugar dissolves, gently bringing mixture to a boil at 260† F on a candy thermometer.
  3. If you wish to color the syrup, add food color a few drops at a time, and stir.
  4. Carefully pour the hot syrup over warm popcorn and mix well to coat all corn. Cool until you can comfortably touch it.
  5. Shape as you wish. Let the mold set for a few minutes only, then turn over and shake out you popcorn shape.
  6. Decorate with icing, candy, nuts to eat, or ribbon, paper cutouts, and more if only for display.
