Materials

  • 1 bag (2.75) ACT II® 94% Fat Free Butter Microwave Popcorn (11 cups popped)
  • PAM® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
  • 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Fleischmann's® Original Margarine-stick
  • 1 teaspoon cold water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • Colored ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Shirt paint or glitter glue
  • Glitter, sequins, buttons, artificial flowers, or other small craft items
  • Glue
  • Paper clips or pipe cleaners (optional)

Directions

  1. Prepare popcorn according to package directions. Remove all unpopped kernels. Place popped corn in large bowl sprayed with cooking spray.
  2. Spray sides only of medium-sized heavy saucepan with cooking spray. Combine confectioners' sugar, marshmallows, corn syrup, Fleischmann's, cold water and salt, if desired, in saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir constantly with wooden spoon until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat; pour over popcorn, stirring gently until evenly coated.
  3. Spray hands with cooking spray and quickly shape popcorn mixture into 1 and 1/2 inch balls. Paint balls using your favorite shirt paints or glitter glue. Be creative!
  4. Affix decorations with glue or wire. For a longer lasting ornament, spray popcorn balls with a craft or lacquer spray.
  5. Leave ornaments to dry on newspaper, wax paper or other safe surface.
  6. When ornament is dry, wrap ribbon around popcorn ball, double-crossing it at the base of the ball, as you would if you were wrapping a present.
  7. Bring the ribbon to the top of the popcorn ball and double-knot it on top. You will form a “cradle” for the ball.
  8. To hang your ornament, you can use the extra length of ribbon to make another loop and double knot it at the top. You can also straighten a paper clip or shape a pipe cleaner so it is straight with one hook on each end. Put one hook through the double-knot of the ribbon. Use the other hook to hang the ornament on your Christmas tree!
